It enables an individual t<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">o think rationally and base decis<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ions on logic and<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">reasoning . I<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">t becomes utmost important specially in the primary years of schooling when a child<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">begins to develop an indep<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">endent though<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">t process.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page3R_mcid4\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Being a science teacher<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">I<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">always feel that<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the learning experience has to be structured in such a way<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">that the nature of science becomes an inherent part of the child\u2019s thought process.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page3R_mcid5\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\"><strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">But what is<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">scientific attitude and temper<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span id=\"page3R_mcid6\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">An individual with scientific temper<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">doesn\u2019t believe in things until tried and tested.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">T<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">he spirit of<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">enquiry<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and observation becomes the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">guiding<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">approach<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">And<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">t the same time<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">one<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is ready to<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">change<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">decisions<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">when evidences points in another d<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">irection .<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page3R_mcid7\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">We often<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">think that<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">one<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">s who study science automatically<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">develop<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">scientific temper.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">But<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">that<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">is not true<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">, to develop a scientific way of thought process a reflective and experiential curriculum<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">right from the primary years is important<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">. A learner centric ,progressive , enquiry based ,reflective<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">curriculum enable<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">s<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a child to think rationall<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">y and base de<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ci<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">si<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ons and actions on evidences.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page3R_mcid8\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\"><strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">How<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">can i develop scientific temper in my child?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span id=\"page3R_mcid9\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Child\u2019s scientific temper is directly related to the environment<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">he\/she is in and the company he\/she<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">keeps. So the curriculum at school and parenting style has lot to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">offer towards the development of<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">scientific temper in a chil<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">d. We often tend to make <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page28R_mcid1\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">children read according to our choices but rather than forcing them ,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">we need to make them <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page28R_mcid1\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">have their independent choices to read . But what is important to note that<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the material<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">they choose ,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">should be age appropriate.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The best way to encourage reading is by setting<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">our own example. When the child observes their teachers and parents reading , they<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">instantly develop an urge to read.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page28R_mcid2\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page28R_mcid3\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span id=\"page28R_mcid3\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Stimulating logical and critical thinking by fun games and acivities<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2013<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Activities based<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">on<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">riddles , brain teasers , logic ,reasoning and analysis infuses excitement and stimulates<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">learners to think critically .<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Chess , board games ,crosswords ,puzzles are some very good<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">options easily available .<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page28R_mcid4\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page28R_mcid5\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span id=\"page28R_mcid5\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">By directing children to let the screen tim<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">e be more focussed on scientific programmes will<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">expose them to the latest scientific developments around.<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Discovery science,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Scishow<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">science, Emily\u2019s wonder lab , Brainchild are few good options .<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page28R_mcid6\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page28R_mcid7\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span id=\"page28R_mcid7\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Exposure to variety of science magazines is a good way to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">increase awareness about<\/span><br role=\"presentation\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">scientific developments happening globally .
